THE W.E.A. SUBSIDY.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—The members of the W.E'.A. class have some reason to resent the Mayor’s action in regard to the subsidy to the W.E.A- University Fund. The grant of the Borough’s has nothing to do with the local class, in so far as the grant is paid to Wellington University, and is then subsidised £1 for £1 by the Government The account for rent of • room was not in the hands of the secretary of the class at the time Mr Murdoch moved his resolution to hold up the 1 grant. Mr Murdoch undertook’to get the grant passed six months ago. The grant should have been passed at that time, and the delay, to Mr Murdoch’s wisdom, has probably made it impossible for the University to obtain the subsidy from the Government. The action of the Mayor is damaging to the credit of the class, and a slur on its integrity. It does not surprise me that this has happened, nor that the execution of the Mayor’s promise is six months overdue.—l am, etc., GREGORY KELLY, Hon. Secy., W.E.A.
