A BLOW FROM THE EAST.
Shannon got the full force of the storm yesterday. The wind and rain swept down from the hills with relentless force. Many sheds were unroofed and trees uprooted, while much damage was Hone to the fruit trees, which were stripped of their crops. Stock also suffered severely. Communication between Shannon
and Palmerston was cut off, the gale having blown down the wires, both telegraph and telephone. Mr W. Clapham, the local lettercarrier, was blown clean off his bike by ""the gale and landed in a mudhole, but was uninjured. Advice from Woodviile said the river was 6 inches above normal at 9 a.m., but was going down at 10 a.m. yesterday.
