THE LEVIN MARKET.

MODERATE PRICES RULING. v A large entry of cattle and pigs was penned at Levin on Tuesday, with a .lair yarding of sheep. The sale was a little better than last week in the quantity of stock disposed of, but while a large portion of the cattle changed hands it was only on a moderate scale of prices that business was done. Fat beef made, up to £6 12s 6cl .for a fairly good class of bullocks, but in the store section slump rates prevailed, with which vendors had to be content.. F&t sheep sold up to la'st week’s prices, the best wethers reaching 17s Id. This class of mutton has not varied much during the past twd months. The entry of pigs was larger than usual, and evidently more than met requirements, there being an appreciable drop, especially in the porker classes. The porkers were a specially good lot, arid the weaners on the whole well grown. The dairy cattle were only moderate, those of the better class making the readiest sales at the best prices.

Pigs.—-Well-grown weaners 18s to 255,. stores 23s for small to 30s, 32s 6d, 355, and up to £2 for best*, porkers £2, £2 7s 6d, £2 12s 6d, £2 15s, £3 5s to £4 6s for tip-top animals; baconers £4 7s 6d to £5 15s 6d, empty sows £3.' Sheep.—Fat wethers 16s sd, 16s 9d to 17s Id, light fat wethers 10s to 12s 6d, fat ewes 11s Id to 14s, fat hoggets 10s to 13s.

Cattle.—Fat bullocks £5 15s to £6 12s 6d, light fat bullocks £3 10s, fat heifers to £4 10s, fat cows £5 2s 6d, empty dairy heifers £2 10s to £3. two-year-old heifers in calf £3 to £6 ss, springing heifers £2 for low-condition-ed to £lO and £ll 15s arid 18-months Jersey heifers £3 7s 6d to-£4, 15 and 18-months heifers £1 17s 6d to £2 2s.

Dairy cows sold according to quality from £5 2s 6d to £7 for ordinary to £lO, £l2, £l3 and £l4 for the best. In the store cattle class a. cow in milk sold as low* as 265.
