RE THE ROLLING STONE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—With your kind permission, through the columns of your paper I would like to draw attention to what I consider a source of annoyance and danger on the streets and roads in and about Shannon, and that is the large number of stones rolling loose about the streets. Some of those stones are as big as a dog’s head, and some of them have moss on them. The other day, as I was walking along the footway in Bailance Street, a passing motor car wheel threw one of those stones and it. hit me and nearly broke my leg. Now, sir, loose stones rambling on the road spoil the appearance of the 'road, and in addition wear, out tyres of cars, bicycles, etc. As I have lived all my life near Shannon, I do not know if the same conditions apply elsewhere or not.
I would suggest' that on the next half holiday all the citizens of this town, instead of' bowling, golf and other sports ,take an hour or two and pick off borne of those stones.. In addition to the exercise gained, they will have performed a useful service. We already have a town-planning scheme, and why not have a stonepicking team? ' If my suggestion does not suit I would like to hear some others, and I am prepared to take an active part in any scheme whose ultimate result will be the removal of the loose stones on the streets.—l am, etc., BERGION.
