SCHOOLS, CRICKET COMPETITION

A proposal by tlie Wanganui Cricket Association to inaugurate a competition for the primary schools has resulted in the following communication from Mr H. H. Richardson, headmaste%of the Victoria Avenue School; This school has no intention of entering a team lor competition as 1 am convinced that the competitions already in existence are not engendering the best kind of feeling amongst t'he schools. Our main sport is Swimming, arid Ave have no time to take cricket seriously, although the ho/s' get. a great deal of casual instruction. When the latler came up at the an-' nuai meeting of the Wanganui Cricket Association, the secretary of the Association (Mr 3. Hayhow) said that he was astonished at, a headmaster writing such an insulting letter, as to the remark that it .would not- engender the best kind of. feeling, he thought that was ridiculous. Under the circumstances they would he pleased that the Avdrrue School was not entering a team.' Proceeding,, the secretary said that a different spirit was shown by the headmasters of the GoiWille and Queen’s Park Schools, who would be plcas'c*! to enter teams, blit in view of the examinations they asked that the competition should not start' : after Christmas. The loiter was received without comment.
