STRAY CATTLE CASES.
SHANNON OWNERS FINED. '
At/ the Levin Magistrate's Court yesterday, Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presiding, James Dalziel, ranger .to the Shannon Borough Council, proceeded against a hatch of local residents for allowing slock to wander on the borough streets. L. Sat-herley, A. Birchall, W. Davis and D., Eagle were fined 10s each, with 7s costs, and R. Neil, Andrew Johnston, D. Murray and P. Gill 5s and 7s costs. A CASE DISMISSED.
An information was also laid against Fred Johnston for allowing a cow' to,, wander on the street, to which a plea of hot 1 guilty was entered. Ranger DalziSl stated that on August 1 cow was found in Margaret Street, and was taken possession of by defendant’s daughter. Witness could not get the cow identified' by defendant, and he therefore inquired from the police, who stated that the animal was defendant’s. Defendant’s lather * appeared and said his son was unable to come to Court owing to illness. Witness said the animal in question was no* his son’s, but belonged to witness, and had been let out to get a drink. His Worship said that being the case the information against Fred Johnston would be dismissed, but it ■was open to the -ranger to proceed against Andrew' Johnston,
Ranger Watson, jan, behalf of the Horowhenua County Council, took action against several Tokomam resh dents for similar offences, and fines were inflicted as under: Mrs Dalzell, fined £1 and costs 10s; H. Wilson, W. 11. Parr and Mrs Walden, 10s and costs 10s; E. Stokes, L. Jamieson and J. Anderson 5s and 10s costs.
