SPORTING.
The Wanganui, spring meeting commenced to-day, and will be continued on Saturday. Gtaki spring meeting on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The Guineas and the two -jumping events have not filled very well lor the first day at Wanganui. Amythas and his stable mate Mustard Pot up from Riccarton for the Wanganui meeting. Through getting- left at, the post Amythas was beaten out of a place in the Railw r ay Handicap at Mart on. The race will cfo him good, and should be up among the money at Wanganui. A moderate lot are engaged in the Spring Handicap on the first day at. Wanganui, and Musfard Pot reads as
well as anything. With Amythas, Sol-' fanella, Maioha and Rude engaged, the Flying should he a good race. The Hawk', and Tamatete will meet in the Wanganui Guineas. The acceptances for the. first day at Otaki are good on the whole. Eight are engaged in the big event, and eleven in the Flying. There was a drop of £BOO in the tote receipts at the Manawatu Hunt meeting at Feilding on Saturday, the amount handled being £17.107. Rose of Athens, of C. Millen r s string, had bad luck in not getting home first, in the Maiden at Feilding. She held a prominent place right through the race, but interference at the home turn prevented her getting in her run, and Morzonia came through and won by half a length from the Welaroa representative. The favourite, Siberian, was third. Miss G. Barrett, the lady owner and
trainer, had a successful day at Feilding on Saturday. Kyoto won the Hack Hurdles, and Siberian ran into t a place in the Maiden Flat. Mr L. 11. Collinsoh scored a. popular win in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase with Gaekwar. • The locally-trained Lord Desmond , was sent out second favourite in a big fidFl of 12 in the last race of the day, but was unable to pace it with the opposition, and finished - among the [ ruck. ’ Printemps’ performance in the Wai- ‘ kanae Handicap was a good one, and ! it is evident the Autumnus gelding is ; in good shape just now..

: Te Toa, who won the Hack Steeplechase. has accepted in the Hunters 1 Steeples at Otaki. Mr R. A. McDonald, of Levin, has Gallia in work again.
