BURGLARY AT SHANNON.
W. 11. GUNNING'S PREMISES ' ENTERED. An impudent burglary was committed at ute premises ol Mr W. 11. Mr Gunning, sen., was on the premises on Wednesday alternoon till about 5.30 p.m., and left everything in order and the doors locked when he went home. On arriving at business on Thursday morning it was noticed that the cover had been removed from the cash register and the back door was wide open. Investigation revealed that quite a quantity ot stock was missing, especially gentlemen’s wearing apparel. The visitor was most discerning in his choice, and must have taken considerable time to select his parcel, for only goods of the best quality had been taken. He had even gone to the extent of trying on various pairs of boots, selecting his proper size in shirts and collars, and choosing an overcoat that will keep out the Wellington southerlies if she should view the Springbok niatch on Saturday. He was not even satisfied with “a Waltham watch, but helped himself to another to adorn his wrist. Two shaving outfits, Paris garters, and a complete set of underclothing helped to swell the outfit. After emptying a sack of tapioca on the floor to secure the bag to pack this choice wardrobe, he took his departure. Several well-defined fingerprints, however, remain as a clue, and the police have the matter in hand, ft is to be hoped they will be successful in apprehending the thief.
