Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs, protesting against the unjust action of the Racing Commission in recommending the Government to cancel the Horowhenua Racing Club’s permit. The Minister’s reply was received at Saturday ’s meeting, stating that the "terms of the resolution would receive consideration.” The danger of leaving stray stock on the roads was exemplified between Koputaroa and Ihakara yesterday. An animal left behind by a passing drover developed offensive tendencies, and one party, including several school children, had to make a detour to he bn the safe side. A big fire has been raging in the swamp at Makerua for some days past,* a most, unusual occurrence for this time of the year.
