MOTOR LORRY TRAFFIC.
ROADS AND BRIDGES DAMAGED. In iiis report to the Horowhenua Council on Saturday, the county engineer uvir W. IN. Anderson) report* cu that during the weeo. a motor lorry carrying a neavy road ol flax broke mree stringers m the bridge on the noitio Beuen Road. It would there*, rure be necessary to bund a new ondge, and mis work would be put in hand at the beginning of next week. Cr. McLeavey asked, as there was a restriction on heavy traffic, would the Council do anything about the Beach Road bridge. The chairman said it had previously been decided to reconstruct this bridge, and perhaps the Council could do nuihmg. Cr. McLeavey said then notices should be posted on such bridges, in any case they should watch that their uiher bridges did not suffer irom aeavy traffic. Cr. Harmless favoured restricting heavy traffic, and it seemed the time was ripe when the Council should take action. / Cr. Barber said the fiaxmill at Maxerua persisted in sending heavy toads over the Manawatu bridge, and something should he done to enforce the by-law respecting same. The chairman said it was a matter for the Council to enforce its regulations. The engineer said he had been hammering at it, but had refrained from taking drastic action so far. As & matter of fact he had brought away the road plant from Tokomaru owing to the heavy fibre .traffic. It was no use trying to make roads when this heavy traffic was knocking them to pieces. However, the matter would receive attention right away.
