“THE POOR PUBLIC.”
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln reply to> your correspondent, “Store Not Up Treasures,” I would like to say to him that he ought to stick to facts'. He says that the churches in Shannon are always appealing for help.. To begin with, the Presbyterians do NOT appeal for outside help; they have not done so for quite six or seven years now. In the “News” a few weeks ago a
paragraph appeared in connection with the Methodist Church sale of work, and the writer drew attention to the fact thta it is over four years since that Church, made any appeal for help. It must be two or three years since the Catholic Church held their last bazaar, though I am not quite sure of the late. This'leaves only the Anglican’ Church members, who have been appealing for help, and as Ave all know they are heavily in debt and are anxious to reduce this as much as possible at an early date. We would all like to see the Soldiers’ Memorial an accomplished fact, and no doubt the funds for this will come along in due course, but for beautifying the toAvn most of use feel there are other things Ave are more in need of, and A\ r ould rather see more important works carried on in the town first. Perhaps is “Store Not Up Treasures” would sent a little of his (or her) treasure to the churches that are in need of help in the meantime, he might in turn get a little for his particular pet schemes. I am, etc., FACTS.
