Lemon juice added to pastry nol only makes it crisp and light, but. ren ders it more digestible. A beefsteak pudding will take on# hour less to cook if a small hole is made in the bottom of the suet crust. This enables the heat to reach the meat quickly. Remember if there is a boiled pudding to be made of almost any sort, pastry or bread, that a little cold potato will lighten any one of them if it is mashed yp fine before boiling. If you suspect by the grain of a steak that it will be tough, first allow it to rest for a time in a little vinegar, then dry it with a clean cloth, and rub it over with a little salad oil and lemon Juice, and it will eat tender. If you get a stain on a polished table caused by a hot dish or a wet flower vase, try this method of removing it, Rub,the stained part well with a clean rag dipped in linseed oil. Then hold a hot iron over the stain, two or three inches from the table, and the stain will instantly disappear. An ironing-beard should be padded ( so that it has spring, but it must not be like a cushion. If padded too much, the iron will sink down and mark the garment that is being ironed. Heavy felt or baize makes a very good pad for an ironing-board. The pad should be wide enough t<y turn over the sides, and about two. inches should be allowed on all sidesrio allow for shrinkage. ~
