A CANDID CRITIC.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Shannon has been a borough now lor quite a lew years, and as yet the Council has done nothing of any use to the community. Tiierelore it is my opinion, as a resiaent, that something ought to be done to wake this Council up, or to get new Councillors who' will get out of the rut and get things moving; When we were part of the Horowhenua County, Shannon expected a lot and got nothing, and it is, if possible, worse now, as all we have is an increase of rates for which we get nothing. It is now well over a year since, at a meeting held in the Maoriland Theatre, it was agreed that a poll be taken to borrow money for a lighting scheme, for which poll we are still waiting, and with the present Council we are likely to wait till 1951. : At the meeting held the evening before the borough election last March (or April) certain promises were made, the only one of which shows any movement is the beautifying Scheme, and I may say it will be very good until the first bit of a fresh in the river, when -“Mr Butterfat’s” herds of cows will eat all the plants and shrubs, and then won’t ♦he Borough “Fathers” make the air blue. . T From what I can see of the local Councillors, the whole lot are not worth their salt, and it is time they either resigned or woke up, as their motto seems to be, “Never do to-day what can be put off till to-morrow.”— I am, etc., REVEILLE.
