AMERICAN EXPERIMENTS. London, July 23. A message from Washington says that experts appear to agree that control of the air is necessaiy to naval supremacy, judging by the lessons of the bombing of the old German Dreadnought Ostfriesland off Virginia Capes this week. Experts believe that it is practically impossible to construct a hull that could withstand such explosions, though in the case of the Ostfriesland none of the bombs was a direct hit.
