MANAWATU-HOROWHENUA (58) v. WELLINGTON (6).

The match between combined Manawaiu aim Horuwiienua and the Wellington B team gave a runaway victory to the former on Saturday by bs points to 6. The combined team was superior in ail departments with the exception of the hookers, in which Wellington had the best of it. In open forward play the combined pack simply ran over tne opposition and this superiority gave the hacks every opportunity to show their best play. Jacob and Broughton (Horowhenua) and Dustin, Carroll and Harkness (Manawatu) were a tower of strength in the forwards and the scoring was very rapid, both among forward and back divisions. Among the latter, Leeder, Swainson and Glendinning (Manawatu) and Ford and McDonald (Horowhenua) were every prominent, their combination reaching a high standard. On the whole, the combined team’s display was a capital one and promises well against the Springboks on Wednesday.

The following team has been chosen by the selectors, Messrs Desmond (Horowhenua) and Hardie (Manawatu) to play against the Springboks on Wednesday: Marshall (full-back), Glendinning, Swainson and Leeder (threequarters); Ford and McDonald (fiveeighths); Maire (half); forwards—Carroll and Bevan (hookers), Harkness (lock), Broughton and Dustin (Slipports), Galpin and Moynihan (backrankers), Jacob (wing). Emergencies: Dalziell and Mullins (forward),, Eglinton and Reid (backs).

A limited number of these will be available for the local public on application. The secretary of the Manawatu Rugby Union says the seats are in the front row in a good position. Early application is necessary for them.
