British area feeds 45 to 50. persons. German area feeds 70 to 75 persons. The soils arid climate of Britain are more favourable by nature than those of Germany. In Denmark the difference is much greater. The Earl of Selborne, at one time Minister for Agriculture, stated that if agriculture had made no more propress in Germany than it liad in the United Kingdom during the period 1891 to 1913, the German Empire would have been at the end of its food resources long before the ericl of the second year of the war. Many.of the Shannon farmers will remember a lecture’ given in the Druids’ -Hall some three or four years ago by a Danish expert on the uses of casein. They will also remember how fluently and easily he dealt with his’ subject, I asked this expert’if Denmark educated all her people in the science of dairying. He replied, ‘‘There are a good many thousands in Denmark would consider me in the junior class.” ’• I hope the Shannon farmers will succeed, and the Government Agricultural Department give all assistance possible.. It is only by scientific methods we will be able to hold' our owiv so let us get busy without delay. Our country requires that each individual will do his best. To groan and whine about hard times in the most productive country in the world is cowardice.—l am, etc., W. MURDOCH. Shannon, August 3, 1921.
