SILVER WEDDING
On Saturday evening some fifty friends of Mr and Mrs Sam. Bowker, of Ihakarla, gathered at their residence to celebrate their silver wedding. Mr and Mrs Bowker have lived in the district some sixteen'years, and during that period Mr Bowkei; has been a very successful breeder of Jersey cattle, and the trophies won by him proved of great interest to the guests on Saturday eveping, they be- ‘ ing in many cases Jersey 'fanciers. A large room had been set aside for dancing and instrumental and vocal items, interspersed with Ihe dancing; made the evening an enjoyable one. At 11 p.m. the party sat down io a supper that left nothing lacking. Mr A. Hyde, in a short'address, Said he had, been for many years a neighbour of Their hosts, and was in a position to certify to their sterling qualities, and he hoped‘that they would all be , present to celebrate their golden wedding when that took place. At his call a toast -of their, health waslieartily di’Unk with musical honours.
' Mr Bowker, in responding, said he was glad to see so many old friends present, and wished for nothing better than a further- 25 years of married life among them. He thanked them on behalf of his wife for their good wishes, and the many handsome presents, which' would be cherished as ' memehtos of the_occasion.
At 12 p.m. a very cordial evening was brought, to a close by the singing' of “Auld Lang Syne” and three ct\eers for the host and hostess'
