BETTER STATION FOR SHANNON.
PREPARED. Mr E. Newman, M.P. for the disvisited Shannon on 4 Saturday, and was met on arrival by the Mayor (Mr Murdoch) aiid Councillors Hyde and Hook,- when several ' matters of local interest were laid before him. On his attention being drawn by Cr. Hyde to the need of better accommodation at the railway station, Mr Newman said he hacf interviewed the Acting Minister of Railways (Hon. Mr Guthrie) on Friday, and -laid the whole position before him. He (the speaker) had not seen the station then, but an examination -of- that day satisfied "him that improvements were urgently required. The altered conditions and development of the district necessitated these* improvements. The matter was toVbe reported upon by the General Manager of Railways, and when the report was received Mr Newman said he would send it on to the Council. The Mayor: There are three officials and two porters using the station, and ’ they have hardly room to move. Mr Newman: The building may have been suitable in 1882;,. but it is not suitable now.
