LIGHTING OF SHANNON.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—lt is to be sincerely -hoped that the Borough Council is not going to waste too much time in • getting a temporary lighting' scheme going pending the arrival of the Mangahao power. I see where it is proposed to invite the engineer and) electric light people to come to Shannon to “confer” with the Lighting Committee. That’s good and well, but-let them get down to business and not take up weeks in conferring and consulting, and then conferring and consulting all over again. The Mayor is usually pretty longheaded, and might have given a lead on the lighting question months ago. Now when light is really wanted in the middle of winter, the Council is only waking up.—L am, etc.,
