He was called Uleaborg, which is a town in Finland, in the belief that ho was by Finland. " An Aucklander who recently had a look at the horses under L. Wilson's charge at Hastings, states that The Hawk is furnishing splendidly and is wintering exceptionally well. Word is to hand from Sydney that Cetigne has finished his racing career, and is to take up stud duties at Mr Stirton's place, Mudgee. A patron of W. Sharp's, stable has purchased a colt by Mountain Knight —Mangaroa from the trustees of the Douglas estate, and the youngster was taken back to Auckland in company with Jolly Princess. In reference to the recently, published statement that Mr W. G. Stead was having several of his team prepared with a view to racing in Australia in the spring, the Hawke 's Bay owner recently informed 11 The Squire" that up to the present no arrangements had been made for any of his horses to cross the water. Luke is being strongly supported for the steeplechase at the Wellington meeting. A. E. Downing is leaving S. G. Lindsay's stable to take service with 0. Jackson at Hawera. Thrace is not to.be raced at Trentham, but is being prepared for the C.J.C. Grand National Hurdles. Some surprise has been expressed that Duo, the son of Demosthenes, should have been allotted 9.1 in the Melbourne Cup. Two horses sired by Cambrian, who was bred at Auckland, finished first and second in a race at Perth, Western Australia, last month. The Nelson Jockey Club has decided to increase its stakes by £2OO for the coming season. S. Trilford has taken Kilfane up again. The horße has done well while spelling. Rieuse, the three-year-old sister to Chimera, has been taken in hand after an eight months' spell. She has filled out into a nice mare.^
Oratress has finished her racing career, and has been booked to Absurd. Warlove and Wartone are being put in work again by G. Murray-Aynsley, in preparation for spring engagerhcnts. Mr H. W. Brown intends selling Cyrisian. F. Christmas, who has been training for My Brown, has now an empty stable.
