THE SHANNON LIBRARY.
(To the Editor.) Sir—Having half an hour to spare one day daring the week, I dropped into the Shannon Library, thinking to pass the time pleasantly, and perhaps profitably. Except for a few daily papers, however, the selection of “literature” was flat, state and un-profitable-some hoary old Government records running back ten and twelve years. A varied collection, evidently the principal literarv asset of the library, contained several volumes of the Official Year Book, a little pile of Farmers’ Advocates, the Monthly Abstract of for May, 1920,. Results of the Census of 1916, Patent Office Journal, the Journa lof Health ,an odd copy of Hansard, and a few other tit-bits. Surely it is up to the Council or some other local institution to take a hand in advocating a much-needed improvement by getting something a little more readable than the above collection. How the local residents stand it is a mystery.—l am, etc., TRAVELLER.
