W.E.A. SUBSIDY WITHDRAWN.
A recommendation from the Public Works Committee to the Palmerston North Borough Council last evening read: “That in view of recent publications in the newspapers, the Council is not prepared to continue the payment of an annual subsidy to the Technical School towards the Workers’ Educational Classes, and that in respect to the above the committee controlling the institution be asked to give an explanation. Cr. Oram: What exactly are the pub* lieations? The Mayor: The matter was fully discussed by the Public Works Committee. We had Mr Durwafd and Mr Opie (chairman and director of the Technical School) there 1 , and I can only tell you they were quite satisfied. The recommendation was adopted. At a meeting of the Palmerston Technical School Board last night, the following resolution was passed: “That in view of the withdrawal of the Borough Council's subsidy to the Workers’ Educational Association's classes, and also to the present overcrowded state of the school, necessitating further room for- our own classes, the Board regrets that the W.E.A. classes cannot be continued by the Technical SchooT after .Tune 30th next.” .
