Cycle Show.
A national cycle show was held in the Crystal Palace in January. An account of it states that there were over 250 exhibitors, among them most of the leading , manufacturers of the country, and the exhibits probably reach a total of 1400 In this as ! in oil other recent cycle shows, one cannot feil to be impressed by the fact that extreme ugliness is the chief characteristic of the latest development in cycles. They have none of the grace which distinguished the cycles of a. few years ago now entirely superseded—wo have in fact gone back in shape at any rate, to the " bone shaker ” of th® seventies, would bo utterly impossible to mention a tithe of the exhibits which or® worthy of mention. Everything in cycle® that combines speed and safety and strength is t h<re, mere beauty, os we have re» marked, is now quietly ignored by manufacturers. The neatest thing in th® whole show is not a cycle hut a “sulky,” known as the Kowp Paragon.” )t weighs but 48 b. and » made of steel. It has an adjustab'o seat, telescopic shafts, and pneumatic tyre bicvcl.a wheels. Ano»her of its advantages is t\iat the framework can be adjusted to suit a hors® of sixteen hands equally as wed as a r,ony of eleven. With this, one would think, tb® trotting record will be lowered still further before long. The most interestiTur invention wh'ch finds a place in the show is what i» cdied “ Bickisso 'a starting -gear,” by mean* of which energy is stored m aspring and released when the rider stepa on to the m-ehm®, so impelling it forward for A distance _ -ill be of o.pooU!
