Waimate Borough Council.

The ordinary meeting of the Waimate Borough Council was held on Monday last. There were present, Mr Graham in the ehair, and Councillors Evans, Smith, Manchester, Cameron, Coltman, Petit, and Jones. Consideration of a letter, asking for remission of rates, on tbs ground of poverty, wae deferred.

Councillor Inkster apologised for his unavoidable absence.

An application was received from Mr J. B. Fox, to transfer bis lease to Mr J. O’Leary, and a similar application was received from Mrs Kett, to transfer her lease to Mr B. Binney.—Both applications were granted. The secretary to the Wsiroate High School Board wrote, stating that Mr Henry Watts had resigned bis seat on the Board, aad asking the Council to elect a representative.— Mr William Coltman was elected to represent the Council on the Board,

The works committee reported, recommending that tenders be called for the street maintenance contract, and the lighting contract, and that a new lamp and poit be erected in front of the new Post Office.—The report was adopted. At this stage of the meeting Mr G, B. Barclay, the newly-elected councillor, attended, signed the usual declaration, and took his seat.

The olerk was directed to draw up the account of a defaulting ratepayer, and place it before the next meeting of the Council. The question of erecting a windmill ia the fire brigade station, for the purposa of drawing water to supply a horse-drinking tough to be erected in Queen street, was considered, but nothing was done in the matter. A councillor reported that a new top was required on the pound. The olerk was directed to cell for tenders for painting the notice boards at the pound. It was resolved to kerb aad channel the footpath ia Queen street, |froating Gregeon’e paddock. The olerk was instructed to write to the Timaru Borough Council to ascertain the cost of kerbing and channelling in Timaru. Accounts amounting to £2l Is 4d were passed for payment, and the Council roes.
