Apropos of the cost of harbour works material, Mr Napier Bell states that the rubble in the Greymouth breakers cost from 4s 6d to 4s 9d per ton. Mr Hassell, head storeman for the Canterbury Farmers’ Cooperative Association, met with a serious accident at the store this morning. Hands were engaged in breaking down grain, when a sack fell from the top tier, about 10 or 12 feet high, and struck Mr Hassell very heavily, the full weight falling across the nape of his neck and between the shoulders. He was picked up and taken home in an express, and Dr Lovegrove was called in. The injuries may turn out to be very serious ; in such cases of crushing it is some hours before the effects are fully known. o At the last meeting of the Napier Harbour Board a letter was read from the head office of the Union Steamship Company, stating that the steamers of the company would make use of the new wharf to bo erected at the breakwater when the masters of the vessels considered it safe to do so- This would be practicable in fine weather, but the opinion was expressed that to use the wharf would not bo practicable in bad weather until either the Auckland rook had been removed, or the breakwater extended to the rook.—The engineer was instructed to prepare for next meeting of the Board plans and specifications of the new wharf. Ladies.—For Afternoon Tea use AtoSEbbook’s Boyal Desert and Onslow Biscuits. —[Ahvt].
