AUSTRALIAN FLOODS.
A public meeting was held la the Town Beard office, Temuko, on Monday evening, to arrange for the collection of funds towards the relief of sufferer* by the Queensland floods. There was a good attendance, and Mr James Blytb, chairman of the Town Board, presided. Correspondence was read from the Ber. Father Fauvell, enclosing the sum of £8 at hie and the B«v. Father Le Peti’s contribution j from the Bev. J. Dellow, promising every assistance in his power; from Mr H. Lee, expressing sympathy with the object of the meeting and promising a donation { from Mr J. Talbot, enclosing a subscription of 21s; from Mr F. MoOaskill, enclosing a subscription of 20a; from Messrs Aepinall and Co., offering a ton of flour* The chairman stated that he had also received the sum of £lO as the result of collections made at the Church of England services at Temuka and Winchester, and £3 17s 3d collected at the Wesleyan Church. On the motion of Mr J. Davey, seconded by the Eev. Mr Dickson, it was resolved—- “ That this meeting take steps to afford relief to the distressed people of Queensland, and that a committee a be appointed to carry the matter out by canvassing the town and district for contributions in money or kind.” The following committees were appointed to collect subscriptions For the town t Bev. Mr Gillam, Bev. Mr Dickson, Bev. Mr Dellow, Father Fauvel, Messrs J. Blythe, B. Pilbrow, G. J. Mason, W., Storey, JI F. Dignan, E. Herbert, and J. Brown; for the natives : Mr J. Kahn ; for Arowbenua district: Mr A. M. Clark; for Arowhenua town district: Messrs J. Asbwell, B. Brown, and A. Bussell; for Milford: Messrs J. T. M. Hayhtirst and P. Waning; for South Orari : Messrs J. Guild, J. Austin, W. Mason, and W. Stewart; for Winchester: Messrs D. L. Inwood, W. De Benzy, and J. M. Naughtoo; for North Bangitata: Messrs D. Taylor and G. Winter; for Bangitata Island : Messrs H. Grainger and W. Snell; for Waitohi ; Messrs J. Talbot, J. Fraser, B. Baxter, and T. Orr. Mr Miles moved—” That the committee be empowered to decide whether they shall send money or produce.” The motion was seconded by Mr Oolra and earned. A subscription list was opened, and the sum of £4B 16s Sd was promised, £lllos in goods, and the balance in cash. At a meeting of the committee subsequently held, Ms J. Blyth was appointed chairman and trmram, sad Miß. PUbrow secretary.
