Presbyterian Assembly.

(By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. On the motion of tho Moderator it was resolved that any minister leaving the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, and desirous to withdraw from his connection with the fund, be entitled to receive back one-hal* of the rates paid by him, but without interest. On the recommendation of the committee the following grants to congregations for this year were agreed to: -Presbytery of Auck land—Bt. Peters £2O, Avondale £l2, Wniuku £l2, Taurnnga £3O, Mahnrangi £l2; Presbytery of Wellington—Pahiatua £2O, Shannon £3O; Presbytery of Hawke’s Bav - Hastings £2O, Danevirke £2O, Waipawa £l2, Taradale end Meanee£2o, Gisborne and county districts £2O; Presbytery of Nelson—Nelson £3O, Kumara £2O, To'ara Flat £2O; Presbytery of Christchurch —Flemington and Tinwald £l2, Halkett and Kimberley £2O, Malvern £2O. The Assembly unanimously offered congratulations to the ftov. J. Duncan, of Foxton, on his attaining his 50th year of ministry, and expressed their high appreciation of bis long and faithful services. The Rev. Mr Gordon, of Marton, was nominated as Moderator of next Assembly. The Assembly expressed sympathy with those suffering bv the Queensland floods, and desired to eucourga the bresbyterian people to contribute to the fund opened for their rllief. It was moved by Dr Blmslie, seconded by the Rev. G. Webster, and carried—“ That the Assembly lodge a very emphatic protest against the action of the present Government in bestowing a grant of £4OO on the Magdala Asylum, which is a purely denominational institution and is not subject to any public inspection, and tjiat this protest be lodged on the ground that it involves a violation of an important principle of religious equality, which should be strictly adhered to in the administration of the public affaire of the colony.” On closing the Assembly agreed to meet at Christchurch next year ’ I
