[to the editor. ] ' Sir, — I have no doubt there will be a liberal response from South Canterbury to the above fund, but I think it will not be by sending money that tbe greatest relief will be afforded, but by sending goods. By all means let as much money as possible be collected, but let it (or part of it) be spent for the purchase of flour, tea, sugar, blankets, stockings, frozen meat, etc. Then let the committee ship the goods direct to tbe scene of tbe terrible disaster for the purpose of immediate distribution. By sending money only it would cause delay before the goods were purchased and distributed. I am, &c., TW.
