Owing to the great interest taken in last Sunday evening’s lecture " Why I left the Churches ond became a Obristadelphian,” other features of the same subject will bo dealt with to-morrow evening in the Christa* delphian meeting room, Arcade. A cordial invitation is extended to all. The second heat of the Bowing Club’s double sculls was rowed last evening, at 6 15. Barnes and Johnson met Raymond and McKenaie, and defeated them by six lengths. G. Allan and F. Truman met H. Jones and H. Mayne, and after one of the beat contests of the season won by six inches. The final will de rowed on Monday evening. At the usual meeting of the Tomuka Presbyterian Band of Hope, held on Thursday evening, a nice performance of songf and recitations was performed by the children. There was a capital attendance of parents and friends, and at the close of the meeting a collection was taken up in aid of the Queensland relief funds. A meeting was bold at St. Saviours’ school room, Temuka, on Thursday evening, to organise a Band of Hope in connection with the Sunday school. The Rev. W. E. Gillam presided, and there was a good attendance It was decided to organise a society on linos explained by the chairman who was appointed president. The Rev. W. J. Williams will preach twice at the Wesleyan Church to morrow ; in the morning on ‘ From Fear to Faith,* and in the evening on * Tears in the living place: a repentance that came too late.’ A cordial welcome given to strangers.

Mr W. Farrier has provided a record of this busy week’s work in the port, in a couple of photographs. One taken in the morning from the bank near the landing service shows two steamers at the main wharf and a barque hauled off, two barques at the Moody wharf, two others at the outer buoys, and three coasters at buoys. The second, a larger and better picture, taken from the upper floor of the 0.F.0.A. Store in the afternoon of the same day, shows a third steamer just come in. The second annual meeting of the Star Football Club was held on Wednesday evenin the Oddfellows* Hall. Captain Thomson occupied the chair and there was a large attendance of members. The reports of the various officers, which showed the club to be in a flourishing condition, were passed as read. Several new members wore then elected. It was decided to open the season on Thursday, March 2nd, on the grounds, North street. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. Smith (reelected); Vice Presidents, Messrs 8. Anderson. E. Pratt, D. Davies, and Dr Reid ; Captain, O. Home; Vice-Captain, J, Thomson ; Secretary, W. Strachan ; Treasurer, J. Findlay ; Match Committee, Messrs Thomson, Bagust, and Oborn. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers, and a like compliment to the chairman closed a most enthusiastic § meeting. At the Baptist Church to morrow evening the Rev- O. O Brown will take as his subject “ Whoao hath this world’s goods and behold eth bis brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of | God abide in him ?” A collection will be taken on behalf of the Queensland distress fund. The regular meeting of tho brethren of the Geraldine Lodge, No. 27, N.Z 0., was held in tho Masonic Hall, Geraldine, on Wednesday, When the routine work of the lodge had been completed, Bro. A. White, R W.M., oa behalf of the members, presented Bro. J. M. i Murray, P M., with a handsome Past Master’s jewel. The jewel, which was supplied by Mr R. Ferguson of Timaru, bears the following inscription : Presented to Bro •T. M. Murray, P.M., of the Geraldine Lodge, No. 27, N Z.O by tho members of the lodge, in recognition of his work as the first master of tho Lodge.” The S.W.M. made the presentation in a few happily chosen words expressing the appreciation of the members for the great services rendered by the recipient. Other brethren spoke in a similar strain and Bro. Murray very feelingly expressed his thanks to the members.

The annual meeting of the Mackenzie County Coolie Dog Club was held at Burke's Pass on Saturday, the 11th inst., and was well attended. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year ;—President—Mr T. McDonald ; vice-president —Mr William Bain ; secretary—Mr W. Gunnion ; trea saver—Mr M. McLeod ; timekeepers—Messrs P. H. Stock and H. F. Ohaffey; flag steward —Mr George Foster. The following judges were appointed for the different classes : Messrs R. Guthrie, D. Macfarlane, S. McGregor, R. Anderson, W. R. Kay, J. Boss, W. L. Mitchell, A. Onighoad, J. Macintosh, A. Cowan, D. Mitchell, and J. C* Cook. Class I. was altered to a pure buntaw&y class, aud several other alterations made which will be detailed in the programme which will bo printed shortly. The trial is to take place as usual in the first week in April, and judging by the displayed, it promises to be a great success. A GOOD CHARACTER.
