Land For Sattlement.

(By Tblbgbaph.) WELLINGTON, Fbb. 17. The Board of Land Purchase Commissioners under tbe Land for Settlements Act, will sit shortly in Canterbury and Otago, to consider a large number of offers of private land received by tbe Government. The board consists of the Surveyor-General, the Commissioner of taxes, and tbe Commissioner of Crown Lands of the district and the Land Registrar of the district in which is situated any land proposed to bo acquired. The duty of the Board is to ascertain the value, and report as to the demand (or settlement in the locality. For the purposes of the Act the Colo rial Treasurer is empowered to borrow £50,000 in any one year. After the investigation in Caatsrbury the board meet ia Otago.
