BowlingThe council of the Northern Bowling Association have determined to hold a tournament in Wellington at Faster and endeavour to arrange a match North v. Mouih Island. Play begins on March 3let. A certificate and bowls only will be given as prizes, no trophies or medals. Flood in ths Ctaki. Recent floods in the Otaki were the worst experienced for the last 25 years. They are aitrihuted to strong westerly winds causing high tides, thus blocking the escape of flood water. Considerable damage was done to property, but no live* were lost. Several settlers lost a number of sheep, pigs etc. A house from which the residents were rescued was built on tbe bed of an old riveroourse, end had three feet of water in it* The Weather. CHRISTCHURCH, Fbb. 17. It is still blowing stiff from the north-west. The weather is excessively hot. Bun Over on the Line. A serious accident happened yesterday at Lake Forsyth. As the 5.30 train was leaving after tbe regatta, a man named Abraham Bowley was crossing tbe rails in front of the train, and was caugnt by tbe engine and bad his right font out off, the right knee smashed, and a large flesh wound in tbe thigh. The train was pulled up, and tbe man was brought to Christchurch and taken to tbe hospital. No blame is attached to the engine driver, who as s< on as be saw the man on the line blew the whistle and reversed the engine. The man is a school teacher and married.
