The annual meeting of the Timaru Tourists’ Cycling Club was held on the Amateur Athletic Club’s grounds yesterday afternoon. What gave promise of being the most successful meeting ever held in South Canterbury, was utterly spoilt by the weather, for a strong nor’wester blew throughout, and made the whole surroundings wretched. Spectators and competitors alike were covered with dust, that from the cinder path being black and of a most affectionate kind, sticking like wax to all it blew up against. The attendance was fair, and would have been larger had the day been a fine one ; and it was a matter for surprise (o sec so many ladies present. Th-> sports were fairly interesting, two decent finishes being seen in a dosen events There was no doubt that many of the wins were ridiculously easy, and as the majority of the prises fell into the hands of two competitors only, this put a damper on the proceedings also. The afternoon’s programme was a heavy one. bub still time seemed to bang heavily and the sports to drag a little. The absence of " scratch ” races was remarked by a number of people and it is to be hoped that two or three “champion events ’’will 1 be on the programme next year It I would bo fully worth while seeing the pick of Tiroarn an the same mark with !

visitors, over a longer or s shorter journey. Visitors from Christchurch, Ashburton, and Otago were present yesterday, but did not score one win. This was matter for regret, and, apparently, their previous efforts bad been too highly classed by the haodicapper, for aa soon as they began to look in it, the local men pedalled clean away. The various o fficials did good work throughout the after noon, and the races were started punctually to time. 'Jhere were numerous falls at the eastern end of the straight, due to the strong wind canting the riders over, and two or three riders will carry ugly soars for a few days. The following concludes the programme of events: Half Mile Bictolb Race ; trophies £2, £l, and G. and T. Young’s special. Final Heat.
