Time was when the Palmer Company, of J arrow-on-Tyne, might safely have been predicted to top the list in point of tonnage produced; but that is scarcely so now, though the Palmer Company still cut a very good figure. This year, as last, the laurel wreath must be accorded to the great Belfast firm, Messrs Harland and Wolff, whose output reaches the magnificent total of 68,000 tons. Second place is fairly due to Sir WilFam Gray and Co., of West Hartlepool, who have turned out 21 vessels of 59,810 tons though they are closely followed by Messrs Bussell and Co., of Port Glasgow, who have performed the extraording feat of launching a vessel every fortnight during the year, and whose total production numbers 26 vessels of 54,240 tons Fourth position will probably be found to be held by Messrs J. L. Thompson and Sons, of Sunderland, with a record of 37.649 ionajthna wresting the place from Sir Raylton Dixon and Co. by 30j0 tons.
