(By Telegraph.) Dividend. AUCKLAND Feb. 15. The Devonport Ferry Company declared a dividened of 10 per cent, for the year. Dictational LetterThe Regatta Committee resent the dictatorial letter from the New Zealand Bowing Association, in reference to their neglect to consult the Association, re the dispute in the rowing race at the annual regatta. It expresses regret that the Association has seen fit to ad* dress an independent body in such terms* Death of a Maori Chief* WELLINGTON, Fbb. 15. Wiremu Kingi Tematakatea, a noted Maori chief, died yesterday, at Opua, near Opunake. A Wedding Present. In the Supreme Court to day Mr and Mrs Russell, of Wanganui, are applying for order to compel B. W. Mills to transfer to Mrs Bussell, his daughter, 26 sharesi m E. W. Mills and Company. Plaintiffs alleged that the shares were presented to them as a wedding gift, but were never transferred. Defendant denies the intended transfer of the shares, but states he held them for the bene of hie daughter, she receiving the annual dividends. The case is proceeding. Flood in the Otaki. The Otaki river is in great flood. Mr James’ house, above the railway bridge, is 1 surrounded. A party proceeded with a boat to rescue the occupants. If the rain continues there will be the largest flood ever known here. .
Fire. DUNEDIN, Feb. 15. A twelve-roomed wooden house in street was partially gutted this morning It was occupied by Mrs Diok as a boarding house. It is fully covered by insurance—house £6OO in the National, and furniture £l6O in the New Zealand.
