LABOUR ITEMS.
(Bx Telegraph.) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 11. During the past week there has been some trouble between the master builders and j 'urneymen. The latter demanded Is per day rise in their wages bringing the minimum up to 9s. The masters met on Friday and received a communication from the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Association, stating that they had resolved to cease work unless this advance was granted. The mastera drew attention to rule 6 as signed by the president of the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ and Builders’ and Contractors’ Association, on May 16tb, 1891, providing that three months’ notice must be given. The men held a meeting last night and reported that apart from other considerations the majority of the masters bad conceded the mens’ requests hence no further action would be taken as it is expected that all will join in making the concession.
