The weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day show the reserve to be £17,914,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 50 per cent. Three months’ bill are discounted at lj per cent. Consols 991. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock, 106 ; 3£ per cent, ditto, 96|. New Zealand long berried wheat, ex warehouse, restricted at 31s 9d. Mutton, Canterbury, 4|d per lb, Wellington, 4|d ; mutton ex Kaikoura, 4£d ; New Zealand beef, forequarters, 3£d, and hindquarters 4yd. Hemp is steady and the market is quiet. Prices remain unchanged. No New Zealand consignments are offering. South Australian wheat, ex warehouse, ?3s 3d ; Victorian, ditto, 335. Sugar, German beet, 14s 4|d ; Java, quiet at 16s. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron f,o.b, in the Clyde, 46s 6d. The American visible supply of wheat is 106,500,000 bushels. At the wool sales there is fair competition. Crossbreds are firm with quotations unchanged.
