S. C. Times Office, Friday Afternoon. Messrs E. Wilkin and Co., report for the week ended Friday, 23rd November, 1883, as follows: — In consequence of the very unsettled state of the weather, especially on Saturday last, business has been very slack during the week, and the same cause had a prejudicial effect on last Saturday’s horse sale, as some entries from the country that were made during the week did not turn up. Horses—From causes named above, there was no sale at their repository last Saturday. Quotations remain as last week. They hope to see a better demand shortly. Cattle—The price of beef remains steady at about 25s per 1001 b, but they have effected sales of really prime quality at an advance on that figure. At the Washdyke yards on Monday there was a large entry of stores, the bulk being 2 to 3-year old steers and heifers in good condition. Although was a good attendance, very few being buyers made the sale dull. Out of their entry of over 180 head they only succeeded in disposing of 86 head. Privately during the week they disposed of a line of 50 head three-year-old bullocks at a very satisfactory price. Store cattle are not moving off so freely as they ought to do considering the abundance of feed there is all over the country; still they cannot help thinking they are good property to hold. Sheep—At Washdyke on Monday last there wbs not a fat sheep yarded, which caused great dissatisfaction to several buyers who were present. A few prime quality mutton is always saleable at these yards at fair prices, and they think farmers and others ought to take advantage of the local market and send forward a small draft every fortnight. In stores they have no transactions of.any note to report. There are enquiries for crossbreds of every sort but very few offering as yet.
