SPORTING.
W AIM ATE RACES,
These races were held on the Club’s new course close to the town jesterday. A good running ground a mile in circumference had been laid out, and but for the unpropitious nature of the weather the meeting would have been very successful. As it was, however, the attendance was not as large as usual although the sport was good. Something like £320 was put through the (otalisator. The following is the result of the races. Hurdles, 30sovs; 2 miles, Milo, 10-t 6lb (0. Hobbs) 1 Captain, 9st 711)... ... (Colton) 2 Wildboy, list ... (li >b> risen) 3 Albion also nn. There was a very close race betw-en Milo and Captain. Waiiiate County Hack Huedle Race of 15 sovs ; miles, Mr M. Sherwin, jun.’s Mody (Joyce) 1 Waiiiate Handicap, of 40 sovs ; 2 miles. Albion, 7st 101 b 1 Mokarakaru, 7st 51 b ... 2 Vlolio, Bst ... ... ... ... 3 A splendid race between the first two, Violin a bad third. County Puese, 25 sovs ; 1 mile. Mokarakaru, 9st ... 1 Hinera, 7st 51b 2 Magician, B't 81b ... ... ... 3 Four others also ran. Mokarakara won easily. Publicans’ Handicap, 40 sovs; 1-| mites. Milo, 6st 101 h ... 1 Mokarakara, 7«t 81b ... ... ... 2 Violin, Bst ... ... ... ... 3 Calarnanto and Swindler also ran. Milo and Mokarakaru were close together till entering the straight, « hen the firmer came away and won by two lengths. Hack Selling Rack, £-mila heats. Mr A. M'Kay’s Horatio 1 Six started, He'lio being second. Consolation, 15 sovs; I mile. Violin, Sat ... 1 Swindler, 7st ... ... ... ... 2 Hinerna, 6st Blb 3 Hinerna would have probably won, hut for running off the course at the first turn. 4
