For their Collection of Manufacturing Machines a First Order of Merit, Certificate of Gold t Meal. The Committee desire to call: special attention to the excellence of the 1 Universal Feeding Leather Working Machine. “ * Singer Manufacturing Co. —For the Best Family Sewing Machine, including variety of work, excellence of workmanship and mateii d, simplicity of construction and durability, a Fh>t Order of Merit, with Certificate of Gold Medal. “ Davis Sewing Machine Co.— For their Family Sewing Machine, for its variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, a Silver Medal and First Order of Merit. In arriving at the merits of this machine as compared with the one exhibited by the Singer Company, the jury have had considerable difficulty in arriving at their .decision, and it will be satisfactory to the public to know that the awards have been given in the above order after long discussion by a majority of two to one.” OTHER EXHIBITS EXAMINED. - The Cominittee have also examined the following Machines:—The Household, the Bradbury, the Howe, and the Wheeler and Wilson, but beyond possessing some novelties in construction, they have no special points to entitle them to leading places in this reportW. Drab Sib, —I am directe' by ihe Committee of Judging and Awards to acknowledge your letter of the 1 6 h inst., and to inform you that when the Davis' Sewing Machine Company's protest was' investigated by the C mmittee, it was decided to refer the matter back to the Jmors of Section VII., askmg whether they would kindly reconsider their decision and inform them (the Committee) at an early opportunity whether their decision given—of a First Order of Merit, Silver Medal could be altered to a recommendation of certificate of Gold Medal, the reply was that, after due consideration, they could see no reason for altering the award. . This decision_ was final, and accepted by the Committee, Messrs Fiske and Co. being advised of the result, consequently the advertisement you refer to is NOT OFFICIAL.
