Interesting to PublicansAt the meeting of the Licensing Commissioners in Chri-dchurch South yesterday, all applications for extension of licenses to 12 o’clock were refused. Three applications for extension to 11 o’clock were granted and .five were refused. Hotel Extension RefusedAt the East Christchurch Licensing Court to-day the only application made for an extension of license to eleven o’clock was refused. At Rmgiora several applications were made for similar extensions and refused. The English Cricketers not to Visit New ZealandDunedin, Dec. 5. It is now definitely known that the Hon Ivo Bligh’s team will not visit New Zealand. The “Unco Quid” at Work. At the Police Court to-day several convictions were recorded against persons for raffling horses, and it is intended to take proceedings against the managers of the Benevolent Carnival for holding lotteries. Shipping. Dunbar, barque, from Manritus. Interviewing the Minister of Public WorksA deputation waited on the Hon. W. Johnston re Mr Caldwells removal. The Minister replied that changes were made in the interests of the public service and he could not hold out any hope of his retention here. In Macnamarae’ case the deputation urged that tbe facts were not fully represented to Government. Mr Johnston recommended sending up a memorial.
