WAIMATE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of this Council was held on Wedneday last. Present— Mr M. Studholme (Chairman), and Messrs O’Brien, Hardie, Lawrie, Hayes, Manchester,Teschemaker and McGregor. Mr Studholme was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Manchester, seconded by Mr Hayes—- “ That no further grants be made to Libraries in this County.” A quantity of correspondence was read, and dealt with. The Hospital returns showed that four patients were admitted during the month, five discharged, and one die ', and five remained under treatment. Six out-door patients had been treated. The Engineer’s report was read as follows : “Works in hand are progressing favorably. There are nine contracts incomplete, the aggregate liability on which is £556. In consequence of my time being wholly taken up preparing estimates of works, &o , to be applied for under the“ Roads and Bridges Construction Act,” I have been unab'e to prepare works for tender this month, and will be unable to do so until after Christmas, unless there be anything special required by the Council. “ Mr Johnstone’s application is for a road to be stopped running towards the Wainono Lagoon through a part of applicant’s property. There is no objection to stopping that portion commencing at the south-east corner of R.S. 13828 passing a distance of twenty chains into Mr Johnstone’s property, provided the expense incurred in closing the same be borne bv applicant.

“ Plans of a number of roads that have been duly advertised to be closed are submitted. There is an objection to the closing of one. One of these road lines is on Mr El worthy’s property, Pareora ; another at Hakateramea through Mr Norman Lane’s property, and the third at Waihao Forks through Mr Studholme’s property. It is net-es-sary for the Council to decide these roads shall be stopped or not.” Accounts amounting to £558 18s 2d were passed.
