The National Mortgage and agency Company of New Zealand report the following as the latest market, quotations ' —Nothing is doing- in malting barley, and prices are nominal. Shipping wheat is decidedly firmer at 5s 6d. 'New Zealand oats (duty paid) are weaker at 3s 9d to 4s 2d for feeding qualities, and 4s 3d to 4s 4d for milling do. There is rather more enquiry for New Zealand oats in bond, and prices are less depressed. Present quotations range from 3s 4d to Bs Bd. Prime hams are in good demand at 9fd, and there is a fair demand for bacon at Bd. Owing to the recent heavy rain business has been dull, and the bad weather has hindered the progress of harvest operations in the grain districts. (Received Noy., 29,1882, 1.25 a.m.) Dr Seaney.
Dr Beaney has instituted an action at law against the proprietors of the “ Argus” for having published an article commenting unfavorably upon his public career in connection with the election proceedings. Damages are laid at £IO,OOO.
