Attention is directed to Mr T. Tichbon’s advertisement in the wanted column. A meeting of those persons who manned I 1 the boats for saving life on the 14th May last is convened for eight o’clock tomorrow evening at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Sophia street. Yestesday at Temuka, there was a rifle shooting match between ten members of the 0 Battery, under Sergeant-Major Jackson, and ten Temnka Rifles under Quarter-Master Sergeant Brewer. The total scores were O Battery, 191; Temuka Rifles, 144. Two young men went on a digging expedition yesterday to Dashing Rocks, near the mouth of the Waimaitaiti Creek and were rewarded for their pains by unearthing two perfect greenstone tomahawks, a piece of greenstone and a large piece of flint. As this spot was supposed to have been a‘ Maori camping ground in days gone by, it is probable other similar curiosities are bnried there. A lady inquired of a neighbor how a certain friend of theirs, notorious for his laziness, who had been ill, was getting on; the reply was—“l believe he is now able to sit up at his meals, but still has to lie down at his work.”
