Mrs Bennetts, a widow residing at Kinghtstown, near Christchurch, died suddenly on Tuesday night An inquest will be held. A wrestling match between George Robinson and H. A Slade’ for £SO a-side, will come off in Christchurch next Saturday night. An amusing hoax ‘was lately perpretrated on the managers of a church bazaar in Sheffield. An offer of a horse and trap was tendered and joyfully accepted. One of the directors who had been duly advised by telegraph, met the train by which the costly gift was expected, and received a clothes horse and a mousetrap. A man started in the livery stable business, and the first thing he did was to have a big sign painted, representing himself holding a mule by the bridle. “Is that a good likeness of rue ?” he asked of an admiring friend. “ Yes, it is a perfect picture of you, but who is the fellow hoi ling your bridle P” “ Beggars can’t he choosers,” says an old adage. A gentleman writes that a beggar got into his hall the other day, and chose from the hat rack forthwith three hats, one umbrella, and his new overcoat.
