WATER ON THE BRAIN.

[To the Editor.] Sir, —I am of opinion that if there is one disease more afflicting to the human family than another, it is “ Water on the Brain.” IBy the report of the Borough Council meeting, it is certain that 1 the whole of that body are sadly afflicted. The new blood-cannot be held responsible for the Tollies of the past, but if things are to- be improved, it is from them we expect it. In the question of water supply to a town, there are a few simple points for consideration, viz., purity and cheapness, but in neither case has the best interest of the people been secured. It was a mistake to allow the Borough Council to dabble in the water supply. It has always been found that corporate bodies are the most costly vendors of water and gas, and the Imperial Parliament of England, now discourage their dealing with either- Had the water supply been taken up by a Joint Stock Company every house in the town could be supplied for much less than the extravagant interest we now pay on the loan, which reflects no credit on those who managed it.—Yours, &c.
