A DARING ESCAPADE.
This morning about four o'clock, the Harbor Board’s watchman was startled by the atrival at the breakwater of a man from the German barque, Gerd Heye, lying in the, roadstead, who had made the passage between the vessel and thp shore in a frail craft composed of a single plank and ladder,; lashed together with cross-bars and bnoyed.up by a con pie of lifeboat floats. After a very short delay at the breakwater, the man passed on into town, bnt it is hot known in what direction he subsequently went. It was shortly afterwards learned from Captain Ladwigs that he was a runaway seaman from the barque, and the police were instructed to find him if possible. As, however, be has had some hours start, his capture is by, no means certain. Certainly, if his skill and energy are equal to his courage he will be a very useful man.
