Serious AccidentKumaba, Sept. 28. George Mansfield, a miner,-yesterday slipped into the sludge channel, and was washed out to the mouth a distance of 3300 feet; he was immediately rescued from the drop and taken to the hospital; he was much cut and bruised, but no bones were broken. Fortunately, the men in-the various claims were changing shifts at the time, or the consequences must have been fatal. DiphtheriaCheistchdech, Sept. 28.. The South Town Belt School has been closed, owing to the prevalence of diphtheria in the district.
