GERALDINE RACING CLUB. SPRING. MEETING.

Obabi, This Day, The Geraldine Racing Club’s, annual Spring Meeting, was held on the new racecourse, Orari, to-day. There was a large attendance, and this, -being the first meeting of the season, most of the “cracks” met to try oonolu-. sions. The new ground was in fair order, but in laying., out the course, a mistake was made in forming too sharp an angle in the entrance at the straight run-in. The club are to be congratulated, however, on the success attending ; their efforts to provide a suitable racecourse for the district, and any defect will doubtless be remedied in the future. The ne,w grand stand is a decided improvement on the t old “ramshackle” structures!; Geraldine, blit the tradespeople (publicans especially) of that festive town, will not view the removal of the racecourse to Orari as an improvement. The special train arrangements did a good deal td promote the success, of the meeting, and taken altogether the day was a most enjoyable one. The following are the details of the racing : Handicap Hurdle Race, of 85 sovs ; ■ about two miles. Mr J. Pilbrow’s Clarence (H, Lunn) 1 Mr P. Jones’ Lady Perdita (0. Joyce) 2 Mr M. Mr Hammond’s Lottery ... ... 0 Mr P. Butler’s Quamby ... . ... 0 Betting—s to 4 on Clarence ; 6 to 4 against Quamby. Lady Perdita led off, with Jack close up to her. Jack then took the lead, and kept it for nearly a mile, when Lady Perdita! again went up. Passing the Stand the first time,. Mokarakara led and kept the lead for the next half mile. All the horses jumped well. On coming op to the second last hurdle! Clarence, who was lying third, made a rush, and was first over the Inst hurdle, winning the race from Lady Perdita by 3lengths. Mokarakara was a good third, the others close up. There, was £176 in the totalisator, £66 being on the winner.
