A PROTEST.

Sib, —It was with -great ; grief that, I saw in your issue of Tuesday evening that my case of lunacy was dismissed at the R.M. Court with a caution. What the caution meant I am at present unable to understand, for I must inform you that it was not through drink that I was placed in that unhappy condition, and I was very much hurt to see in your paper that I was dismissed with a caution after the good character that Inspector Pender gave me to the Magistrate. lam a ten years resident in Timaru, and was never before in a Court of Justice. Trusting you will correct the error.—l am, &c., Joshua Lake. [We hasten to give insertion, to Mr Lane’s protest and to express bur extreme regret for the mistake, which, we need not sav, was purely accidental. We intended publishing a correction before Mr Lane’s letter came to hand, and we trust be will accept this acknowledgement,—Ed. 8. C. Tikes.] •
