WHAT ABOUT THE PROPOSED MUSEUM?

[To the Editor.]

Sju,—Some considerable time since, it was proposed to form a Museum in Timaru, and those who had any articles in the shape of curiosities or specimens, and were inclined to assist in giving the museum a start, were invited to contribute. Several persons who had small collections, - parted with them for the purpose of promoting this object. Spaces for cabinets were to have been given in the Council chambers, and in a short time we were, to be able to boast of a full-blown museum, with curator, taxidermist, and all other requisites. Time has passed along, but as yet we have no museum. Why is it thus? Whathas’become of our little collections of curios, &c., each one of which had some particular reminiscence attached to it, and which were only parted with to assist in what was thought a good purpose ? The Council chambers bold them no longer. Have they been chucked down into the'dog pound ? Have they helped to fill up the well, or have they gone to assist in filling up some private cabinet? The fact of knowing what has really become of them would to some extent satisfy One Who Was‘Had.
